About Me

Amy Somerville (Morrissey)
BCYC, MC, RCC

Hi, I'm Amy.

I'm a Registered Clinical Counsellor who believes therapy should feel human.

My path to counselling began through my work with children and families. Over the years, I've worked alongside individuals and families experiencing a wide range of challenges, including parenting stress and burnout, neurodiversity, family conflict, trauma, difficult life transitions and other circumstances that can leave people feeling overwhelmed or unheard.

Those experiences shaped the way I practice today.

I believe people are more than the problems they're experiencing. My role isn't to “fix” you—it's to create a space where we can slow things down, understand what's happening, and discover the strengths and possibilities that are already there.

My approach

My work is collaborative, relational and person-centred.

Depending on what you need, I may draw from approaches including:

  • Attachment-based and Emotion-Focused Therapy

  • Narrative therapy

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

  • Synergetic Play Therapy

  • Trauma-informed approaches

The approach is always adapted to you, rather than expecting you to fit into a particular therapeutic model.

I strive to meet each individual on a personal level. It is a core value of mine to build a relationship with each individual I support, using this as the foundation of our work together. My goal in counselling is for the process to be uniquely tailored to each person, while integrating a warm and calm demeanor, weaving in humour, and empowering pre-existing strengths and capacities.
