About Me
Amy Somerville (Morrissey) BCYC, MC, RCC
My passion for working with children and families started at a very young age and has continued to guide my path into counselling. My background is rooted in working with individuals and families facing adversity, including positions as a supported child development worker, a family support worker for some of our local Indigenous agencies, and a child protection social worker alongside Victoria’s urban Indigenous population. I have had the opportunity to work alongside families of diverse backgrounds and abilities, many of whom are vulnerable and disenfranchised within society. This work has allowed me to strengthen my knowledge in the fields of child development, neurodiversity, intergenerational trauma, domestic violence, substance use, child abuse and neglect, poverty and housing instability. I am passionate about empowering those who are marginalized within our communities and helping to give voice to those who have been silenced. My experience has provided me with the skills for advocacy and to hold empathetic space for those in crisis or having difficult conversations.

My approach to working with adults is guide by the same principles, values, and experiences. I strive to meet each individual on a personal level. It is a core value of mine to build a relationship with each person I work with, using this as the foundation of our work together. My goal is that counselling is uniquely tailored to each person, while integrating my calm demeanour, weaving in humour, and empowering pre-existing strengths and capacities. I want you to feel seen, heard, and valued.

The Therapeutic Process
My hope for you in the counselling process is to create a space that allows for both the grace and the messiness of being uniquely human. I strive to approach counselling in a collaborative, and person-centred way that feels innate and client led. I embrace and empower the strengths and capacities that people carry with them into the therapeutic process, and endeavor to build on these pre-existing capacities.

Together we might strive to tease apart narratives that no longer serve you, explore attachment styles and inner drives, and discover meaning making with gentle and embracing curiosity. Therapy with me will look like holding space for uncomfortable or difficult conversations, navigating challenging life transitions, complicated family dynamics, or exploring rooted attachment patterns.
